Wolfenstein 3D Into VR- A Nostalgia

No Comment Yet

A group of Wolfstein fans has something nostalgic in mind to deliver.

Wolfenstein 3D, released in 1992 by id Software, launched the monster video game genre called the first-person shooter. The title is breaking new grounds and is well-regarded. It has been blown into the air that a group of fans is working on bringing the title into virtual reality (VR).

This project is an inspiration from the making of ‘Wolfenstein VR’ in 1993 by Alternate World Technology. It used a heavy and bulky arcade head-mounted display and Polhemus tracker technology, but the project was hindered by the technology limitation of that time.

The new VR project under making will allow the gamers to step inside the castle once again in this tribute to one of the greatest games ever made.

The current version of Wolfenstein 3D VR uses the Windows Shareware version of Wolfenstein 3D as a basis, involving ten levels of secret passages, labyrinthine hallways, guard dogs and, an entire army of Nazi forces waiting to be shot dead, all presented in VR.

The only fully supported VR device is the HTC Vive, though the developers are working on getting it working for the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality devices.

If you are interested in trying out Wolfenstein 3D VR, download it online. The development team is open to accepting feedback from the audience so that they may be able to improve the experience by removing bugs and glitches.
