Make Construction Sites Safer With Interactive VR Training Courses

Bochum-based researchers are now endeavouring to make the construction sites much safer with the interactive an immersive virtual reality preparation course. There is a team which is led by Prof Dr Markus König working in the Institute for Computation in Engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum. The team is developing an appropriate technology in order to make it possible to experience the sources of danger virtually and also in an immersive way.

It is being worked on with a vision to help the occupational health and safety experts in order to check construction sites and their critical areas in advance so that one can plan out some suitable safety measures. Construction workers can also be trained in the immersive format so that they can be sensitised to the dangers.

The researchers are taking advantage of the fact that every large construction site today is being planned out virtually first then it is being created physically afterwards. The upcoming program can now train them to make a 3D model for the representation of the site in Virtual Reality.  They are using the same technology which is found in the computer games so as to make the environment look very realistic.

The team also consists of many PhD students and a PhD student named Thomas Hilfert is working on the automatic creation of virtual environments by using three-dimensional models and later on suitable sounds can be added according to the needs.

There are a huge number of accidents that are happening on the German construction sites each year. The cause of an accident is not because of just one worker, but because of the lack of safe working conditions.  Virtual Reality is successfully touching new and new phases which are helping it to grow more like music, high end fashion brands, travelling, etc.
