Sony a leading consumer electronics giant recently announced a delay in the release of its Virtual Reality headset. The much awaited VR headset was to accompany Sony’s gaming flagship Play Station 4 console and was initially set to be released in June.

The headset now is set to hit the market for consumers and buyers in October 2016 which can be seen as a major time window for competitors to get half a year head start on the technology. Sony’s reason to justify the delay by few months is to ensure that it ships enough units before its official launch and has a wide variety of softwares available, as revealed at a press event on Tuesday.

The Press event was held during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco where Sony’s chief Andrew House confirmed that more than 50 games will be made available between October and the following end of the year. One of the amazing collections of VR content is Electronics Art Inc’s Start Wars Battlefront which will be launched with the VR headset.

Also, the price of PlayStation VR headset which works in unison with the PlayStation 4 console is set to be at $300 in the US and £349 for UK. The price which was also revealed on Game Developer’s Conference on Tuesday is currently the lowest price of a VR headset in the market in comparison to competitors like Oculus rift which costs a massive $599/ £499 will be out in the stores by April. But then again the Rift and HTC Vive need high end and powerful PCs to support the gaming content which costs around $1,500. Whereas Sony’s PlayStation VR headset has an advantage of being compatible with PlayStation 4 console which is already a huge hit selling over 35 million units since its launch.

Hence, we can conclude that Sony’s PlayStation VR Headset with its great reviews and specs and despite the delay is far better positioned to hit the success mark with its VR headset compared to its rivals in the industry.
